The United States grew 229.5 to 311.7 in the same period – a clear growth of just 35.81 per cent. This, for a country loaded with social security benefits.
A relatively unplanned stretch of South America was at 246.8 million in 1981 and grew 62.6 per cent to 401.42 million in 2011. The whole of the continent of Africa was inhabited by 489.97 million in 1981 and grew to 1.07 billion in 30 years in 2011.
